The Queen’s Gambit is one of the oldest chess openings. It involves White offering a pawn in exchange for faster development of the pieces and an attack on Black. Just like the Queen’s Gambit, which has existed for centuries, we also learn from the experiences of others - if, of course, we allow ourselves to.

Of course, there are also those who don’t acknowledge any experience unless it’s their own.

In life, sometimes we have to give something up now in order to gain an advantage and growth in the future. Sacrifice gives us freedom and room to act, we can focus on what truly matters, rather than simply preserving the status quo.

Just as there are many variations of the Queen’s Gambit, each of our decisions has multiple possible paths. Some people choose safer options, others bold and innovative ones, but the principle is the same: strategic thinking and planning. Just as a gambit requires anticipating the next moves, life requires the same. Success comes when you think several steps ahead.

These steps are never guaranteed. Moving forward involves risk, courage, and careful consideration, which often leads to the greatest rewards, but also to the steepest falls.

In my twenties, I made key decisions that shaped my life even thirty years later. I stepped out of my comfort zone and made a complete turn. I was a woman who, at 24, became a widow with three young children. My decision was to move on our own, far from home and family, to another city.

I already knew in advance that I was on the right path, regardless of the people around me and their disapproval of my choice. I learned early that their limits were not mine. Their fears were not my fears. My fear of the unknown still fuels me today, it is the wind in my sails, my driving force.

Whatever path you choose in life, let it be your own, let your mind, heart, and body wholeheartedly confirm it. Because if you receive a big “YES” from yourself, you’re already halfway to success.
